farm guide, stellenbosch

Hi everyone,

In our previous update, we mentioned that we will be exploring the healthy living options available in Cape Town and its surrounding areas over the next articles. We are thrilled to have you join us on this journey!

We have compiled a list of locations that caught our attention, each offering a unique farm/estate experience. These include family-friendly activities, farm-to-table dining, luxurious surroundings, and in-city options. We are currently working on a comprehensive CityGuide for Cape Town, which will feature these locations and many more. We can't wait to share this exciting destination guide with you, so stay tuned!

A family-friendly Sunday

Boschendal is the most charming farm we have visited around Cape Town.

The estate, founded in the 17th century, proposes a wide range of activities on-site, such as horseback riding, bike rental, and picnics on their lawns. They have a deli and a restaurant that we both recommend, but our preference goes for their farm shop and butchery

On Sunday during summer, expect live music and a wholesome ambience.

Wine tasting and garden visits are available to book.

The most impressive farm

Babylonstoren is by far the biggest farm that we have visited and is internationally known to be one of the main attractions in the Western Cape.

Expect a wine museum, a peak into their cellar, an immense garden (where you can find an array of fresh produce), a spa, restaurants, donkeys, and the most amazing farm shops (butchery, cheese shop, home shop, and much more).

Wine, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar tasting are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The most luxurious estates

Tokara and Graff are our picks for date nights and wine tastings. From art collections, spas, and high-end shopping to fine dining, you are in for a treat if that is the type of experience you are looking for. Tokara produces and sells the best olive oil we have tried so far, which you can try at their deli and restaurant. Visit for sunset and arrive a bit before it so you can enjoy the beautiful scenery over the Cape Winelands.

Farm-to table lunch

Good to Gather restaurant, located on Rozendal farm, left us even more in awe after they welcomed chef Ottolenghi (read more in our London day guide) in April 2024. The 3-course menu rotates frequently and serves fresh, local and sustainable products. The intimate experience has been nothing short of marvellous, and if there is one place you absolutely need to book during your trip to Cape Town, it might be this one.

Beware, as many have the same enlightened idea - you will have to book weeks in advance.

In-city farm

The Oranjezicht City Farm that we mentioned in the previous article is a must-visit. The project is non-profit and emphasises local food and agriculture, community gathering, and urban farming in Cape Town.
